  • Season Ticket (for) F B Toulmin Esq (to) Admit Two (to the Opera staged by) W.S. Lyster 33.80mm, Silver Engraved by a local jeweller T.T. JONES possibly on a smoothed English Halfcrown. The Dublin born entrepreneur William Saurin Lyster arrived in Australia in 1861 with his opera troupe. Although his company was based in Melbourne over the next six years he toured the other colonies including New Zealand presenting operas such as Il Trovatore and La Traviata to enthusiastic audiences. The troupe left Australia for a tour of America in late 1868 but before departing held a short Sydney season. This season pass owned by F.B. Toulmin , the Secretary to Somerset Lowry- Corry the Governor of New South Wales is, thought to be the only one that has survived.
