Description:

Previously the property of Hugh Macintosh the promoter of the Jack Johnson - Tommy Burns World Heavyweight Fight of 1908

    Notes:
  • A rare collection of photographs of early scenes of Sydney and the surrounding districts. The volume although undated appears to be an official leather bound presentation which on the content appears to have been compiled between 1890 and 1900. A Norman Lindsay bookplate identifies the original owner as Hugh McIntosh the promoter of the Burns-Johnson Fight in Sydney in 1908. The collection includes photographs of early pictures of the luminaries who helped found and develop New South Wales, including Cook, Banks, Phillip, Hunter, King, Johnson, Marsden and Bligh. Two large panoramas of Sydney conclude the edition. The first panorama measuring 2.95m x .38m is dated November 12, 1885 and looks north west in a broad sweep of the city from Surry Hills to Circular Quay. The second panorama is of similar dimensions and starts in the north east spanning the city from Circular Quay to St James Church and taking in the Botanical Gardens.
