Lot 400
Maisky was the highly influential Soviet Ambassador to London from 1932 to 1943 who counted amongst his friends Winston Churchill and LLoyd George. He managed to avoid Stalin's erratic purges of political rivals until 1953 when he was arrested for treason. Luckily he avoided long-term imprisonment or even death when Stalin died just two weeks after his arrest.
