Lot 185
Frederick James Elliott was a prolific watercolourist who specialised in marine subjects notably seascapes and ships. His official biography notes that he was active in Sydney from the 1890s to the 1920s but this painting of the H.M.A.S Ipswich, a WWII Corvette launched in August 1941, indicates that he continued his painting much closer to his death in Paddington (Sydney) in 1949.
