  • 14th November, 1917 'A typical view of the country in the Nieuport-Bains Sector, where the 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company was engaged. Sandbagged dugouts built amongst the sand dunes appear in the foreground, and the smoke barrage further back is one just put up by the British artillery to screen their guns from enemy observation, whilst in action.'
