  • "Two Australian soldiers enjoying a warm drink outside their snow covered corrugated iron dugout at Mametz Wood, in France, in January 1917. Behind the man on the left can be seen the handle of a spade and another is just to the left of his left hand. These spades would be used to dig the snow away from the entrance to the dugout." (AWM)
