Lot 94
This document provides a timeline for the campaign for the Melbourne Mint to strike silver coins for Victoria and the other Australian colonies. The scarcity of circulating silver coins was first brought to the attention of the Victorian State Treasurer in 1873 but it was not until 1916 that silver coins were eventually struck for what then was the Commonwealth of Australia.
