Rafty hand-coloured the sketch and identified the key characters in a notation dated 15.10.83 when it was offered as a prize at the Australian Journalists Club

  • The Juanita Nielsen disappearance is one of the enduring murder mysteries in Australia. Although no body was ever found, there appears no doubt that she was the victim of foul play, and her suspected murderer Eddie Trigg was paid to do time for the lesser crime of conspiring to abduct her in the days before she went missing. Eddie Trigg was an employee of the Carousel Club co-owned by Abe Saffron aka 'Mr Sin' and his standover man Jim Anderson where Nielsen was last sighted having been lured there on the pretext of signing up the venue to take advertising in 'Now' the local protest paper she owned and operated. At the time Saffron held court over the corrupt New South Wales Police Force and so despite overwhelming circumstantial evidence of his involvement investigations were stymied by officers on the take, and so neither he nor any of his close associates were charged with the murder.
