  • The township of Mafeking in Bechuanaland was held under siege for 217 days during the Boer War. Emergency notes were issued under the order of garrison commander Colonel Baden-Powell which were individually numbered. In error No. A 3090 was issued twice the second release being cancelled and renumbered No. A 3610. One hundred and seventeen years later the renumbered note has been reunited with the original No. A 3090 in this rare if not unique offering.
