Notes:
- Bill Whiskey Tjapaltjarri was born in about 1920 at Pirupa Alka near the Olgas, a rock formation west of Alice Springs. In his early formative years he lived a traditional tribal life with no exposure to the white population, which he was first to encounter as a young man when he and a group of desert people roamed naked into Haast Bluff Mission. Although he did not take up painting until 2005 he was immediately recognised as a formidable talent and his works were exhibited at prestige galleries in Sydney, Coffs Harbour, Melbourne, Freemantle and Adelaide. His untimely death in 2008 brought a quick end to his stellar career and as a consequence his works are relatively scarce and highly coveted. His paintings concentrated on the Rockholes of Pirupa (Olgas) and glow with the metaphysical properties that can only be captured by someone who has wholeheartedly lived the experience of a tribal Aborigine.
