Autographs signed during Johnson's fighting career are very rare particularly from the years surrounding his World-title triumph. This is one of the earliest ever offered for sale.

- Before his 1908 Boxing Day triumph in Sydney, Jack Johnson had previously fought in Australia on February 19th 1907 in Sydney and then in Melbourne on March 4th 1907. However, this postcard is thought to have been issued closer to the 1908 Burns v Johnson contest and, with a Western Australia Penny Stamp (1905-1912 issue) affixed on the back and a Kalgoorlie postal address it suggests that it was signed by Johnson when he stopped over in Freemantle while in transit to the east coast of Australia for the title fight. The signature greeting "Yours Truly Jack Johnson" is similar to the facsimile signature found in the souvenir programme. Johnson was again transiting through Freemantle on Wednesday 30th August 1911 enroute to Sydney as part of Hugh McIntosh's travelling boxing troupe but by then he was known to sign as the Champion.
