Lot 55
Struck on a 1790 'Charles IIII' 8 Reale (a one year type).
-
Notes:
- Erroneously listed as Mira 1786/5 in the 'Holey Dollars of New South Wales' but actually struck on an extremely rare 1790 8 Reales showing the armored bust of Charles 111 but with the legend of Charles IIII (not Charles IV). This coin is a unique type that was previously unrecognised and ranks equally in rarity with the only surviving 'Pillar' Holey Dollar. Condition:
- The Counterstamp of 'New South Wales' and '1813' is fully readable but on the reverse only 'Five' of 'Five Shillings' and a partial wreath is visible. The condition of the host coin is Good.
