Description:
Important Superb early Incised Narrow Shield, South East Australia. Carved and engraved hardwood and natural pigments. Carved in hardwood of lozenge section, the front intricately engraved with zig-zag and meandering linear motifs, the reverse undecorated with deep-cut lug handle, old dark patina.

- Caleb Fidler, Mt Gambier, collected between1857-1880. Dr Weland Stone, United Kingdom, by descent from the above. Private Collection, Sydney, acquired from the above in 2014. Caleb Fidler and Samuel Webb founded the Fidler and Webb General store in Mt Gambier in 1857. Both were Methodists from Newbury, Berkshire and founded the Methodist church in Mount Gambier..
