    Dimensions:
  • Height 30cms : Diameter 23 cms
  • Artist Name:
  • Chinese
  • Literature:
  • 132
  • Medium:
  • Asian Art & Antiques
  • Circa:
  • 1500 - 1028 B.C.
  • Condition:
  • It is noted in the report that the valuation relates solely to the 'Jia' which was thought was missing two support posts and, that the cover is probably a 20th Century addition. However there is no surface evidence that the vessel is missing posts and the custom fit of the cover suggests that the vessel is probably not a 'Jia' but another early ritual wine vessel known as a 'Jiao.' The alloy used in the 'Jiao' (or 'Jia') is 78% Copper (Cu) and 20% Lead (Pb) while the cover is 70% Copper (Cu) and 19% Lead (Pb). The close fit and near identical metal composition of the cover suggests that it is was made at the same time and is not a later addition.
