- B(enjamin) E(dwin) Minns (1864-1937) "was born in New South Wales (and) was taught by A.J. Daplan, Julian Ashton and Lucien Henry. He became well-known for his black and white sketches of aborigines. His first job was on the staff of the Illustrated Sydney News. He first drew for the Bulletin about 1890 and five years later went to London where he worked for Punch, the Strand and the Bystander. A friend of Charles Condor, he exhibited at the Royal Academy and the New Salon (and) also with the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours. He was a member of the Society of Artists of Sydney and President of the Australian Watercolour Institute of Sydney." (John Kroeger 1968)
