  • William Jenkins came to Australia as a convicted sheep duffer (thief). On his release he started a number of successful businesses in partnership with his brother which included farming, boat building and property development. Jenkins issued 'Shilling', 'One Shilling and Sixpence" and 'Two Shillings and Sixpence' Promissory notes all dated 1812. Tragically his business career was cut short in 1814 when he was shot dead during a robbery at the Parramatta Toll Gate.
