- In 1951, the London Mint was called upon to strike Australian coins for the first time since 1915. The 1951 PL Sixpence was a one-year type with fine milling similar to that of a British sixpence but with 127 denticles (the British sixpence of the same date carried 129). The contemporary Australian sixpences had 143 reverse denticles and much coarser milling.
