Iconic

    Notes:
  • The 1956 Olympic Games held in Melbourne were the first to be held in the Southern Hemisphere. Skeptics at the time were doubtful as to whether Melbourne was an appropriate place to hold and Rome was floated as a possible replacement host location. Cold War amnimosities were running high and many countries boycotted the games. Hungary had been recently invaded by the Soviet Union and the match-up between the vengeful Hungarian and Soviet Union water polo teams was a brutal encounter labeled as the "Blood in the Water".
